Microsoft Surface Pro 4 - Everything What you want to know about
Microsoft’s Surface is known for combining portability with
performance. The Surface Pro 4 is the latest offering in the series and its
finally available in India. We received the entry level unit with a sixth
generation Intel core i5 processor , 4GB RAM & 128GB SSD.
Now in this post we are explaining everything what you want to know about Microsoft Surface Pro 4.
Straight out of the box, the Surface Pro 4 impressed us with
its light weight  and sturdy magnesium
chassis. It has a power and volume button on top, a full-size USB 3.0 port, a
minimum display port on the right and microSD slot that cleverly hides under
the kickstand. The kickstand is what helps to prop up the device at various
angles  depending on your preference. It
is well built and holds the tablet without any wobble- a common issue with many
other hybird devices. Weighing  is at
just 786 grams, the Surface Pro is easy to carry around in one hand. Even with
the Keyboard cover, it doesn’t get bulky and we thinks it’s far easier to carry
as compared to most laptops.
   The Surface Pro 4
has a 12.3-inch display with a resolution of 2736 X 1824 pixels. This high
resolution helps keep everything on screen super crispy. Brightness levels are
excellent , although we did notice that the automatic brightness was
troublesome- the brightness kept changing on its own without the change in
ambient lighting. The touch screen is responsive and multi-touch works great
thanks to the pixel sense technology. You might think that the 12.3-inch
display is too small for spreadsheets, but the high resolution of the screen
gives you lots of space to work – we had no issues working with documents,
watching videos or editing photos on the display.
Performance is top-notch, thanks to the sixth gen processor
and SSD. The device boots up in less than 15 seconds and apps start instantly.
Photoshop CS6 was humming along happily and we even managed to play Counter
Strike Source without any issues. The only issue is that the 128 GB storage
which we felt is lacking . Thankfully, you can add a microSD card for storage expansion. Battery life is strong –we are able to get over 7 hours of
continuous video playback with 50% brightness. For day to day office use , the
Surface Pro 4 should easily last from 10am to 5pm on a single charge. Usually
for this kind of device, both the front and rear cameras on the Pro 4 perform
well- both offer good quality images in daylight as well as indoors.
        Windows 10 Pro
is preloaded along with a 30 day trail of office 365. Features like windows
Hello for login and Cortana work seamlessly on the device. It also has a
dedicated surface app to help you get the best from your device –it has
additional settings for the Surface Pen.
There are two recommended accessories for
the Surface Pro 4- Surface Pen (included in the box) and the type cover ( RS. 12,490). The pen is presser
sensitive and easy to pair with the device. It works seamlessly with various
apps including the edge browser , French Paint and OneNote. You can adjust
sensitivity and Microsoft says that it won’t require changing for up to a year.
In addition, you can configure the button for various functions with a single
click as well as press and hold. The shape is similar to a typical pen, so most
will find it easy to use. It will magnetically latch on to the side of the
device when you are not using it.
     The chiclet-style
keyboard cover connect to metal connectors at the bottom of the tablet.
Therefore, no charging is needed. It is comfortable to use and the keys have
good travel. We loved the fact that it had backlite keys and a large glass
trackpad that responds well . you might not be able to tell the difference
between a laptop and a Surface Pro4 when the key board is connected. Needless
to say , it doubles up as a cover to protect a display when not in use and has
a soft felt finish. We think that anyone getting a surface should buy the
keyboard cover for sure.
The main issue with the Surface Pro 4 is the price. This
variant is priced at $999 in the US which roughly translates to Rs.68,000. The
type cover is $130 or Rs.9,000. Here, the Pro 4 alone is Rs.89,990. This hefty
price puts it out of reach for most users and brings in the comparison with
Apple MacBooks. Another issue is the single USB 3.0 port that feels lacking for
the price. Also it uses a proprietary charger like most laptops. You have to
carry the charger with you everywhere.
